EASTER

We are excited to celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please see the details below for more information on each of the events we have planned for Holy Week.

Palm Sunday (03/29)  at 10:30 am

On this day in church history, Jesus made his final entry into the holy city of Jerusalem. He was welcomed and applauded by all. Only a few days later, instead of cheering for Jesus, the crowds would be calling for his crucifixion (see Matthew 21:1–11; 27:15–23; Mark 11:1–11; 15:6–15; Luke 19:28–40; 23:18–25).

Here at PHBC, we will have a special interview with a sister-in-Christ who is going to Germany to bring the gospel to the nations. This interview will be available for those in-person as well as for those watching through our live-stream.

Good Friday, April 3, at 7 pm

Good Friday is the day that we celebrate the death of Jesus on the cross. It might seem odd that it’s called “Good” Friday, but without the death of Jesus, we’d all be condemned for our sins. Jesus’ death paid the penalty for our sins. That’s why it was a “good” Friday (see Matthew 27:32–55; Mark 15:21–41; Luke 23:26–56).

Here at PHBC, we will gather in our worship center to pray, sing songs, read Scripture, and hear a brief homily from Isaiah 53:3–7. Each person attending the Good Friday service will receive an 8-inch nail to remind them of the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf [NOTE: We will not distribute these large nails to small children. We are asking for parents to use discretion as they consider giving a nail to their small child(ren). Also, there will NOT be any childcare provided for the Good Friday service. The total length of the service should be approximately 45 minutes.]

One church member will nail three of these nails into the cross as a visual and auditory reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice. After the service, the cross will be taken to the front lawn, and we’ll ask everyone to depart in silence.

Easter Sunday (April 5) morning “early” service, from 7:30 to 8:15 am

The women went to the tomb early on that first Sunday after Jesus had been crucified, but they didn’t find the body in the grave. Instead, they were greeted by angels (see Matthew 28:1–6; Mark 16:1–4; Luke 24:1–12).

Here at PHBC, we will not be gathering at “sunrise,” but we will have a special early service outdoors on the front lawn. This service is open to everyone, but we especially want to make our church members who still don’t feel comfortable coming indoors have an opportunity to worship the risen Lord Jesus on Easter Sunday morning.

As we gather outside, we will pray and sing songs and listen to a brief homily from John 20:1–10. The cross will have already been loosely wrapped with chicken wire so that we can “flower the cross” with fresh-cut flowers (see here for an example of flowering the cross). We are asking you to bring some fresh-cut flowers with you. (NOTE: The church will have some extra fresh-cut flowers, but we need you to bring flowers so that we have enough to really make the cross a bold “living” cross for all to see.)

Sunrise Breakfast from 8:15 to 9:00 am

Join for breakfast between our sunrise service and our testimonial service. Reservations are NOT required!

Easter Sunday morning testimonial service, at 9:00 to 10:00 am

The disciples were giving testimony that the grave was empty and that Jesus was risen (see Matthew 28:7–8; Luke 24:22–24; John 20:17–18).

Here at PHBC, when we finish with our outdoor service, we will go into the worship center to hear the Christian testimony from several church members. We will NOT have a regular adult Sunday School program on Easter Sunday morning, but we will have childcare available for those in need.

The purpose of this testimonial service is two-fold. First, this is an opportunity for the members of PHBC to grow closer to one another. We can learn more about one another and about how we came to faith in Christ. But second, this testimonial service will also serve as a living illustration for Easter Sunday’s preaching text (Hebrews 12:1–2).

That text begins with these words, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.” We want you to be reminded that we are not only surrounded by the cloud of witnesses from Hebrews 11, but we are also surrounded by a cloud of witnesses here in our own church! We hope that you’ll prioritize being a part of this special testimonial service.

Easter Sunday main service, from 10:30 am to noon.

Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection of Jesus. If he didn’t rise from the dead, then we are all fools for following him (see 1 Corinthians 15:1–20).

Here at PHBC, following a brief break after the testimonial service, we’ll gather again for our main worship service. We’ll sing songs, pray, and hear a message from Hebrews 12:1–2. This service will end with another “testimony” as we will celebrate Christian baptism and hear the Christian testimony of one of our newest church members.

Please email Pastor Brian at  with any questions.
